Sunsets over the city

For a not-to-be-missed photo opportunity, head up to Mount Archer National Park and take in spectacular sweeping views of the city from up high. If you head along early morning or late afternoon you'll also capture vivid sunrises or sunsets in your photo to make even Instagram Influencers jealous of your photo. 

Before you head up, pack a picnic so you can sit back, relax and take in the views while enjoying a bite to eat. 

Tip: to get the best photo, weave your way through the Nurim Circuit elevated boardwalk with impressive tree-top views over the mountain.

If you're looking for the most iconic image of Rockhampton, jump in the car and discover the Beef Capital's wonderful world of bulls through its bull statue tour.


Tip: Along the way, stop at the Frank Forde Park on Upper Dawson Road so you can easily get to one of the statues - and get a selfie!

The Fitzroy River lies in the heart of Rockhampton, dividing the CBD and surrounding residential areas in the south to the Berserker Ranges in the north. Along the Fitzroy River lies Rockhampton's Riverside precinct, and from here you can take spectacular landscape shots of the river and it's natural flora and fauna, with boats dotted along the water. 

Into fishing and like to photograph your catch? Take a charter or put your boat in the river and catch a Barra - don't forget to post your catch and hashtag #fishingthefitzroy! 

Tip: to get the best photo, head along to the Boathouse Restaurant on Quay Street. It sits out over the Fitzroy River, making way for a spectacular shot with uninterrupted views of the river with the mountain ranges behind. Don't forget to order yourself a drink at the bar and get a glass-in-hand shot within the frame.

Artwork on Rockhampton's Riverside

Stroll through Rockhampton's CBD and its laneways - not only will you discover Australia's longest stretch of heritage listed buildings, you'll also stumble across some of the city's best street art, all by locals. 

Tip: head along Quay Street to Fitzroy Bridge, near the Criterion Hotel. You'll find artwork by a local Indigenous artist.

Cafes in Rockhampton

Are you someone that Instagram's your food? Head along to Dingles and you'll come across a cafe rivalling that of Sydney and Melbourne's best. Beautiful interiors, great coffee and delicious food - you'll have much more than food to photograph. 

Apart from the photo opp, don't forget to order food off their menu - you won't be disappointed. 

Tip: as you walk in, try and get a seat in the front room and take a shot of the archway looking through to the coffee counter.
